HIST4345 - Origins of the Jim Crow South

HIST 4345 Origins of the Jim Crow South (3 semester hours) An examination of the origins of segregation and disenfranchisement in the American South following Reconstruction through World War II. Attention will be paid to both the legal and extralegal edifices upholding white supremacy and the evolution of a racist consumer culture. The course will also explore African-American resistance to Jim Crow. Prerequisite: HIST 1301 or HIST 1302 or HIST 2301 or HIST 2330 or HIST 2331 or equivalent. (3-0) R
