HIST2332 - Civil War and Reconstruction
HIST 2332 Civil War and Reconstruction (3 semester hours) A survey of the causes and events that led to the Civil War, including slavery, the growth of sectionalism in the United States, the nature of the anti-slavery movement, and the inability of political institutions in the United States to facilitate any peaceful settlement to the impending crisis of the late 1850s and early 1860s. The course focuses on social, economic, and political factors during this period and examines the impact that individual political leaders and their personal beliefs and characteristics had upon these events.
