CHEM 3462 Biochemistry II (4 semester credit hours) Breakdown and synthesis of lipids; membrane structure and function; nitrogen metabolism and fixation; nucleotide metabolism; structure and properties of nucleic acids; sequencing and genetic engineering; replication, transcription, and translation; chromosome structure; hormone action; biochemical basis of certain pathological processes. Problem-solving methodology in biochemistry; discussion of recent advances in areas related to the subject matter. Prerequisite: CHEM 3461 or BIOL 3461 or equivalent, or instructor consent required.
