VPAS 6313 Advanced Studies in Visual Arts Leadership (3 semester credit hours) A graduate-level course designed to provide an in-depth exploration of leadership principles within the context of contemporary art. Building upon foundational knowledge, this course examines the past, present, and potential future trajectories of contemporary art, focusing on the imperative need for diversity, inclusivity, transparency, ecological mindfulness, and civic intentionality. Through engaging discussions and critical analysis, students will explore the intersection of artistic expression and societal concerns, equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate issues facing the art world. Practical experience will be gained through field trips to local art spaces and interactions with industry professionals, offering firsthand insight into gallery operations and curatorial strategies. Additionally, students will undertake an advanced research project or develop an individual portfolio project layout for a proposed exhibition, allowing for the application of theoretical concepts in a practical setting. By the conclusion of the course, students will emerge with a comprehensive understanding of creative arts leadership and the ability to enact positive change within the contemporary art landscape.
