PSCI 6356 The Rise and Fall of Democracy (3 semester credit hours) This course examines and compares the major theories and empirical patterns in democratization and democratic backsliding in the 20th and early 21st centuries. Topics include sources of authoritarian and democratic fragility, connections between economic development and democratization, and competing elite and mass-based theories of both democratization and democratic breakdown.
