PSCI6322 - U.S. Energy Policy and Regulation
PSCI 6322 (PPPE 6322) U.S. Energy Policy and Regulation (3 semester credit hours) This course covers energy policy and regulation in the United States at the national, state, and local levels. It is intended for students from a variety of disciplines and there are no prerequisites. We will start with an overview of different government institutions, and the roles of political parties, interest groups, and public opinion in public policy. We will then examine policies and regulations that affect the supply of energy from different sources, and the distribution of electricity through the electrical grid and local utilities. Finally, we will examine policies and regulations that affect the demand for energy such as vehicle mileage standards, infrastructure, carbon taxes or limits, and sustainable cities. (3-0) Y
