EESC6353 - Broadband Digital Communication

EESC 6353 Broadband Digital Communication (3 semester credit hours) Characterization of broadband wireline and wireless channels. MAP and ML detection. Intersymbol Interference (ISI) effects. Cross-correlation and auto-correlation matrices. Equalization methods to mitigate ISI including single-carrier and multi-carrier (OFDM) techniques. Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) communication systems. Implementation issues including complexity, channel estimation, bias and latency. Real-world case studies from wireline (DSL and chip-to-chip communications) and wireless (cellular and WiFi) systems. Students work individually or in small teams on a project and present their findings to class. Prerequisite: EE 4360 or equivalent or Instructor consent required. (3-0) T
