HMGT4322 - Foundations of Clinical Support Systems and Informatics in Electronic Health Records

HMGT 4322 Foundations of Clinical Support Systems and Informatics in Electronic Health Records (3 semester credit hours) This course will cover how the development and strength of evidence in health care delivery will result in proficient design, implementation, operation, and evaluation of clinical decision support (CDS) in the context of electronic health records and other clinical information systems. Topics to be addressed include: fundamentals of health informatics and certified EHRs, issues with EHR implementation, EHR evaluation utilizing an IT model/framework, EHRs and quality & patient safety, determining user needs in relationship to problem and requirement analysis, applying core competencies needed to perform technology assessment in healthcare, evaluating clinical decision support models in healthcare and creating a Feasibility Report identifying clinical decision support models that solve clinical problems.
