NOTES:
1Curriculum Requirements can be fulfilled by other approved courses from accredited institutions of higher education. The courses listed are recommended as the most efficient way to satisfy both Core Curriculum and Major Requirements at UT Dallas.
2Students completing the 020 requirement with a MATH course must complete ALEKS exam prior to enrollment. PHIL 2303 does not require the ALEKS exam.
3Major Preparatory - LIT 2350 and 6 SCH of (LIT 2320 or LIT 2321 or LIT 2322 or LIT 2331). - NOTE: If the student took one of these courses as their core, then the student may choose any free elective in its place as a lower-level major requirement.
4Major Core - 12 semester credit hours - LIT 3300 and LIT 3339 and LIT 4329 and LIT 4390.
5Major Distribution - 12 semester credit hours
  • 3 semester credit hours from the following "Research and Writing" courses (LIT 3338 or any upper-division creative writing workshop (prefix CRWT))
  • 6 semester credit hours from the following "Contexts" course: (LIT 3319)
  • 3 semester credit hours from the following "Comparisons" courses: (CRWT 3330 or LIT 3337)
6Concentration - 15 semester credit hours - PSCI 3303, PSCI 3322, RHET 4320, and ISIS 4304 and 3 semester credit hours from the following (HIST 4342, ISIS 4303, PSCI 3351, PSCI 4301, PPOL 4301, PSCI 4310, PSCI 4363, PSCI 4364, PSCI 4V66, or PSCI 4V67).
7Free Elective - any lower or upper-level course. Students may need to take some as upper-level to meet the university requirement of earning a minimum of 45 semester credit hours of upper-level courses.
Students wishing to pursue a teacher certification should see an advisor for additional requirements.
Be sure to check prerequisites of 2000-level or higher courses.
