NSC4361 - Case Studies in Therapeutic Discovery in Neuroscience

NSC 4361 Case Studies in Therapeutic Discovery in Neuroscience (3 semester credit hours) Discoveries in neuroscience are rapidly advancing, but new therapeutics for neurological diseases have been slow to materialize This course will focus on the ideas that underlie many of the biotech companies that have tried to develop new therapeutics for neurological disorders across the past 2 decades. Examples of successes and spectacular failures will be covered in detail. Students will learn about the practicalities of developing novel therapeutics for neurological disorders. Discussions will range from selecting the right targets for development to designing clinical trials that have the best chance of success. Prerequisities: NSC 3361 and NSC 4363. (3-0) T
