PSY3326 - Intergroup Emotion and Social Change

PSY 3326 Intergroup Emotion and Social Change (3 semester credit hours) The purpose of this course is to examine how conflict between groups is created and maintained. We will consider social psychological perspectives on social identity theory and a number of group-level emotions including guilt, shame, anxiety, anger, fear, and sadness. In addition, research on collective action, including protest, will be covered. Students in the course will gain knowledge about how intergroup emotion theory can help us understand present day and historical conflict between groups in the United States and abroad, including the Civil Rights movement, the Disability Rights movement, Black Lives Matter, the Dalit rights movement, the Me Too movement and more.
