Minors

Students must take a minimum of 18 semester credit hours for the minor. Students who take a minor will be expected to meet the normal prerequisites in courses making up the minor, and should maintain a minimum GPA of 2.000 on a 4.00 scale (C average). Semester credit hours may not be used to satisfy both the major and minor requirements; however, free elective semester credit hours or major preparatory classes may be used to satisfy the minor. Core courses offered by the school may count as lower-division semester credit hours toward the minor. Topics courses must be approved by the school. The School of Arts and Humanities will substitute courses as necessary. At least one-third of the semester credit hours for a minor must be taken at The University of Texas at Dallas. 1. ARHM 3342 can be used for the African American and African Diaspora Studies Minor when topic is Slavery in American Popular Culture, The Harlem Renaissance, or another approved topic.

2. HIST 3328/PHIL 3328 can be used for the African American and African Diaspora Studies Minor when topic is Hidden Figures' Lives Matter or another approved topic.

3. As topic permits, approved on a semester-by-semester basis.

4. Foundations in Film courses are repeatable as topics change.

5. Other courses, for example in computer animation or sound design, may be employed for Studio and Performing Arts, Media Studies, and Production Classes semester credit hours depending on a student's interests and degree plan.

6. IMS 3091 and IMS 3V91 require IMS3310 as a prerequisite

7. PSCI 4348 must be approved by the School of Arts and Humanities before enrolling to ensure that the course subject matter is predominantly Latin American.

8. LANG 3348 and 4348 must be French or Spanish language-based sections.

9. Topics courses must be approved by the School of Arts and Humanities before enrolling.

10. No more than 3 semester credit hours of the Spanish minor may be completed by Latin American Studies Courses.
