HIST 2341 East Asian Civilizations (3 semester credit hours) Survey of major themes in the history, thought, and culture of East Asia societies from antiquity to the present. This course is designed as an introduction to major themes in the history, thought, and culture of East Asia societies from antiquity to present. General themes such as the creation of East Asia (the origins of the Confucian-Legalist bureaucratic state, the spread of Buddhism, the limits of sinicization) and East Asia and the World (the Mongol age, encounters with the West, reform and revolution, and the impact of East Asian nation-states in the contemporary world) will be covered.
