HCS6341 - Genes, Brain, and Behavior

HCS 6341 Genes, Brain, and Behavior (3 semester credit hours) Neuroscience is a remarkable interdisciplinary field requiring analysis at multiple levels: behavioral, electrophysiological, and molecular. This course will focus on the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms that control neuronal functioning, with an emphasis on the regulation of gene expression (transcription/translation) via genetic, epigenetic and synapse to nucleus signaling mechanisms. Relevant examples will reference: regulating cellular excitability, LTP, learning and memory, psychiatric and neurological diseases. Prerequisites: BBSC majors only and department consent required.
