AUD7350 - Auditory Neurophysiology

AUD 7350 (HCS 7350) Auditory Neurophysiology (3 semester credit hours) Covers the anatomical and physiological specializations of cells in the auditory pathway - the cochlea, through subcortical circuits, and cortex. Topics include encoding of temporal precision, tonotopic frequency representation, sound localization circuitry, balance of inhibition and excitation, and the descending auditory system. Students will gain an appreciation for the various methods of interrogating the auditory system used in basic science research, including qualitative microscopy, in-vitro neurophysiology, and in-vivo sound evoked electrophysiology, and how these studies guide our understanding of human hearing.
