Master of Fine Arts Overview

The Master of Fine Arts in Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication is a terminal degree in emerging artistic practices focusing primarily on the creative use and critical investigation of technology in artistic practices. The program is designed for both students wishing to teach arts- and technology-related courses at the college level and for those intending to engage in professional studio or design practice. While maintaining a commitment to interdisciplinary education fusing critical with creative thinking, this program places emphasis on the creation and application of computer-based arts and narrative. Students must complete 54 semester hours of course work, including a thesis project.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the University's general admission requirements, applicants are required to submit the following materials as part of their application file for holistic admission consideration:

  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • A statement of purpose/essay.
  • A portfolio that can include:
  • 20 samples of artwork
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) or resume.
  • Any other evidence of scholarly or creative endeavors you would like to provide.

Deadline: lease take note of early application deadlines. For priority consideration for funding, completed application files must be received by the early application deadline of January 15. Students are accepted for the fall semester only.

Applications submitted or completed after the priority funding deadline may be reviewed for admission only if spaces remain within the upcoming cohort and will be reviewed in order by the date the application file became complete.

Graduate Certificate in Creative Technologies

9 semester credit hours

The Graduate Certificate in Creative Technologies focuses on introducing technologies that support creative work, and opportunities for students to use these technologies to produce meaningful outputs.

The certificate consists of three courses that utilize technology systems, processes, and tools to produce tangible creative products.

Admission Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in Creative Technologies is open to all currently enrolled and non-degree seeking students in the University.

Coursework: 9 semester credit hours
