1Incoming freshmen must enroll and complete requirements of UNIV 1010 and the corresponding school-related freshman seminar course. Students, including transfer students, who complete their core curriculum at UT Dallas must take UNIV 2020.
2Curriculum Requirements can be fulfilled by other approved courses from accredited institutions of higher education. The courses listed are recommended as the most efficient way to satisfy both Core Curriculum and Major Requirements at UT Dallas.
3Indicates a prerequisite class to be completed before enrolling for upper-division classes. Specific prerequisites are required for certain upper-division courses. Review requirements for your major and choose accordingly.
4A required course in the Major that also fulfills a Core Curriculum requirement. Semester credit hours are counted in Core Curriculum. Students must choose a different course for each Core Curriculum category:
  • BA 1310 or BA 1320 or ECON 2301 or ECON 2302 fulfills 080 Social and Behavioral Science Core Curriculum (if not applied towards other Core Curriculum requirements) and a Major Preparatory requirement
  • MATH 1326 fulfills 3 semester credit hours 090 Component Area Option Core Curriculum (if not applied towards other Core Curriculum requirements) and a Major Preparatory requirement
  • BA 1310 or BA 1320 or ECON 2301 or ECON 2302 fulfills 3 semester credit hours 090 Component Area Option Core Curriculum (if not applied towards other Core Curriculum requirements) and a Major Preparatory requirement
5 Students may elect to substitute MATH 2413 or MATH 2417 for MATH 1325. Students may elect to substitute MATH 2414 or MATH 2419 for MATH 1326.
6 To make timely degree progress, students should complete MATH 1325 or its equivalent by the end of their first semester at UT Dallas. Students who will not meet this requirement should contact their academic advisor to discuss their degree timeline.
7 Students may substitute MATH 2333 or MATH 2418 or CS 2305.
8 JSOM first-time-in-college freshmen are required to take BCOM 1300 in their first semester. Transfer students and students new to JSOM are required to take BCOM 3300 in their first semester.
9 Students may use up to 6 semester credit hours of graduate level accounting courses to satisfy undergraduate accounting electives if fast-track eligibility requirements are met. Students interested in this option must see the Undergraduate Accounting Program Director or the Associate Area Coordinator for approval.
10 Students admitted to the Professional Program in Accounting will be required to register for a one-credit hour elective in the spring semester of the junior year.
11 CPA Requirements: Only certain accounting electives may be used to satisfy the 30 Accounting Hours Requirement for the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Students should refer to the list of approved undergraduate accounting courses at: https://accounting.utdallas.edu/program-resources/cpa-exam-information-review-course/exam-education-qualifications/.
12 A practicum experience of at least 160 working hours is required; the student has the option of zero to 3 semester credit hours, depending on the particular internship, and preference for additional electives. Internship requirement MUST be completed by graduation.
13 Free Electives: 0-3 semester credit hours are required for the B.S. Accounting degree. Students who complete OPRE 3340 instead of MATH 1326 or PHIL 2303 will complete zero semester credit hours of free electives. Instead, these students should complete their second 090 Component Area Option Core Curriculum requirement. Students who complete MATH 1326 or PHIL 2303 instead of OPRE 3340 will complete three semester credit hours of free electives.
14 Accounting Guided Electives: 12 semester credit hours from ACCT 3322, ACCT 4301, ACCT 4302, ACCT 4336, ACCT 4337, ACCT 4340, FIN 3330, FIN 3360, FIN 3380, FIN 3390, ITSS 4340, OPRE 4350, ACCT 4V80.
15 Internship (Practicum) required for all JSOM majors. BA 4090 fulfills degree requirements. With program approval, eligible students can complete BA 4090 in other semesters prior to graduation. 16 Community Engagement Experience required for all JSOM majors in fall 2018 catalog or later. Requirement fulfilled by (ENTP 4340 or IMS 4335 or MKT 4360) for 3-hour upper-level free elective; or BA 4095 for 0-hour degree requirement only. 17 BA 4095 is required, if not completing (ENTP 4340 or IMS 4335 or MKT 4360) for 3-hour free elective credit. 18 Students may substitute ENTP 4395 or ACCT 4395.
Students admitted to the fast-track program may take up to six (6) semester credit hours of graduate level accounting courses to satisfy undergraduate accounting electives. Students interested in this option must see the Undergraduate Accounting Program Director or the Associate Area Coordinator for approval of specific fast-track courses. Cumulative GPA of 3.4 minimum required for admission to the fast-track program. See Academic Advisor for other requirements.
