HONS 3102 William Faulkner's Short Stories (1 semester credit hour) Famed for his work as a novelist, William Faulkner was an equally accomplished writer of short fiction. This course will examine ten to twelve of his short stories in order to see the various ways in which he met the demands of what he called "the most demanding form after poetry." HONS 3103 Honey Bees and Society (1 semester credit hour) Explores topics ranging from the biology of individual bees to how the colony as a superorganism makes decisions. Covers concepts from history through modern agriculture to give a complete view of the importance of honey bees in our culture. Prerequisite: CV Honors students only. (1-0) S

HONS 3105 Memory (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary topics in neuroscience, biology, and psychology related to memory. Focuses on understanding the fundamental nature of memory, diseases of memory, and extraordinary cases related to memory. (1-0) T

HONS 3106 Positive Psychology (1 semester credit hour) Through the lens of philosophy, history and psychology, this course provides an overview on the science related to happiness and optimal well being. Readings explore the biological, psychological, social, and emotional influences of contemporary positive psychology and its real-life applications. (1-0) R

HONS 3107 Masterpieces of Chinese Literature (1 semester credit hour) Explores major writers and works (including poetry, fiction, scripture, and historical prose) from selected periods of Chinese literary history. Background readings for historical and cultural context are provided. Prerequisite: CV Honors students only. (1-0) T

HONS 3108 Internet and Public Policy (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary interdisciplinary topics in the internet and public policy. May be repeated for credit as topics vary (2 semester credit hours maximum). Prerequisite: CV Honors students only. (1-0) Y

HONS 3110 The Addicted Brain (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary interdisciplinary topics related to addiction. Focuses on the neural basis of addiction as well as its social and economic impact. Medical and public policy approaches to addiction are discussed. HONS 3113 Lives of the Genus Genius (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary interdisciplinary topics in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and engineering through the writings of famous literary giants, scientists, and their biographers. HONS 3114 Scientific Research Concepts (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary interdisciplinary topics on the practice of scientific research and the scientific method. Focuses on practical strategies for developing scientific skills as an undergraduate student including grant writing and experimental design. Prerequisite: CV Honors students only. (1-0) Y

HONS 3115 Exploring Research at UT Dallas (1 semester credit hour) Explores opportunities to get involved in undergraduate research at UT Dallas. Focuses on learning about active areas of research at UT Dallas and includes weekly lectures from leading UT Dallas faculty. (1-0) Y

HONS 3199 Collegium V Honors Readings (1 semester credit hour) Explores contemporary interdisciplinary topics in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and engineering.
