GEOS1306 - Geohazards

GEOS 1306 Geohazards (3 semester credit hours) Explores natural and human-induced hazards that pose risks to infrastructure, communities, and the environment. The course introduces Earth materials and processes, including minerals, rocks, the rock cycle, and basic plate tectonics. It examines landslides, rockfalls, wildfires, tornadoes and severe storms, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, coastal and marine hazards, volcanic activity, subsidence and sinkholes, soil and groundwater instability, and climate-driven terrain changes. The course examines the underlying processes and methods for hazard assessment and quantification, as well as risk analysis and strategies. (3-0) Y
