FILM3355 - Writing Film Criticism

FILM 3355 Writing Film Criticism (3 semester credit hours) A writing-intensive course focusing on practical film criticism, including the history of journalistic writing about cinema and its adjacent media, and covering the various critical approaches, methodologies, and aesthetic and social criteria developed and employed by professional critics across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Includes close readings of influential analyses of particular trends, generic cycles, directors, and stars, as well as the effects of published criticism and its judgments on the current media landscape. Prerequisite: FILM 2332 or ATCM 2321. (3-0) R
