BIOL4678 - Research in Host-Pathogen Interactions
BIOL 4678 Research in Host-Pathogen Interactions (6 semester credit hours) Project-based research on uncharacterized clinical strains of bacteria. Genome sequencing and analysis; Microbiological tests to characterize strains, including growth, nutrient preference, and antibiotic susceptibility; Examination of the bacteria's interaction with mammalian cells; Observation of how mammalian cells respond to infections; General molecular biology and microbiology techniques including aseptic culturing of bacteria and mammalian cell lines, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, immunofluorescent staining and microscopy. Lab fee of $30 required. Prerequisites: BIOL 3303 and BIOL 3401. (3-9) U
