HCS7308 - Adult Psychopathology

HCS 7308 (PSYC 7308) Adult Psychopathology (3 semester credit hours) Survey of the historical, phenomenological, and theoretical aspects of adult psychopathology. Historical conceptualizations of mental illness and issues related to current psychiatric nosology. The phenomenology of a variety of psychological disorders including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and others. Biological, cognitive, affective, and social features of these psychological disorders will be discussed, as will issues related to race, gender, and culture. Various theoretical conceptualizations of psychopathology will be discussed. Prerequisites: BBSC majors only and department consent required. (3-0) Y
