PHYS 5318 Atoms, Molecules and Solids II (3 semester credit hours) Core course for Applied Physics Concentration. Application of quantum mechanics to molecules and solids. Topics in solids include optical, thermal, magnetic and electric properties, impurity doping and its effects on electronic properties, superconductivity, and surface effects. Various devices, such as transistors, FETs, quantum wells, detectors and lasers will also be discussed. Prerequisite: PHYS 5317, or equivalent. (3-0) R
