BMEN6378 - Mechanobiology for Engineers

BMEN 6378 Mechanobiology for Engineers (3 semester credit hours) Introduces principles by which mechanical forces regulate biological processes in cells and tissues. Reviews aspects of solid and fluid mechanics, light and fluorescence microscopy, as well as cellular and molecular biology. Key topics include intracellular and extracellular materials, cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, mechanosensing and mechanotransduction. Applications of mechanobiology in various cells and tissue types will be presented to enable mechanistic understanding of both healthy and diseased states. (3-0) R
